I am a self-employed mother of one, well, two if you count my husband (and he’s a BIG kid). About 3 years ago, I was offered a big-time promotion at my office job: be groomed to become the general manager of my company. Since the fates like to taunt you sometimes, two days later, I was offered the opportunity to work from home making decent money and I would be able to be at home for my son as he was just getting into middle school. Luckily, I decided on the latter and here I am today. The company that I used to work for just closed the doors on the branch I would have been managing at the beginning of 2009. So, it appears I chose wisely, grasshopper. My son is now in high school (yay…a teenager). And I am quite satisfied with the way it all turned out.
